Following discharge from the Navy Band, Ron went to Berkley Conservatory School of Music in Boston Mass. to study music and saxophone. Upon completion of school, Ron traveled with different groups throughout the United States and Canada. He has traveled with the U.S.O. tour and worked with the all new Woody Herman Band and other jazz groups. He also recorded with different musical groups, which experienced hit songs during the 60s. In 1968, Ron got out of the Band work and decided to go into Calling. Now, as a full time Caller and concert entertainer, Ron has been exciting dancers and listeners in just about all fifty states and in JAPAN, HONG KONG, AUSTRALIA, and ENGLAND. His annual tours take him throughout all of EUROPE. In addition to being featured on P.M. MAGAZINE, the TONIGHT SHOW and ABC’s GOOD MORNING AMERICA, Ron has had numerous articles written in national magazines about his involvement in square dancing and his concerts. Born and reared in Maine, Ron lived on his farm in Falmouth, Maine with his wife Lorna for 27 years where their children attended local schools. The original 100 year old barn was converted into a square dance hall, where he called for his clubs during the week, and a small recording studio, where he started his own recording label – “Whirl-A-Way Record Co.” During his annual travels of over 100,000 miles, he calls on major festivals, and is staff caller on over 20 dance weekends in addition to his own weekends. In 1998, Lorna and Ron moved to the Lakes of Lady Lake, Florida. Developing an extensive home program, he has cut down on his annual travels. During the summer months, June through September, he and Lorna spend those precious months at their year round cottage on the beautiful coast of Harpswell, Maine, There Lorna enjoys her gardening, Ron plays golf and they spend their weekends boating with their children and grandchildren. Although Ron is an accomplished caller at all levels of dancing, he enjoys the excitement which is generated at the lower levels with his special way of expressing choreography and his exciting voice with singing calls. He continues to record on his label – both square dance workshop tapes, and his non-square dance concert singing, (The Big Band Sound) featuring the songs and music of Frank Sinartra, Tony Bennett, Neil Diamond and others, and includes songs he has written himself.
